The PTHC Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection of Chris Clackson as our new Varsity Head Coach and Director of Coaches for Peters Township.
Chris was born and raised in Peters Township. Chris played for The Peters Township Hockey Club starting in 7th grade and all throughout high school. Chris won 3 Penguin Cups and 2 State Championship in his three years on Varsity. In 2003, Chris was drafted by the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL and 2004 drafted by the Chicago Steel of the USHL. He went on to play at Western Michigan. He then played for Adirondack Phantoms and the Rochester Americans in the AHL. Chris played 3 full seasons of professional hockey between the AHL and ECHL competing in over 200 games. Chris finished playing with the Alaska Aces as an Assistant Captain.
After playing, Chris moved back to Pittsburgh in 2013 and started coaching. Chris coached two seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguin Elite as an assistant coach for the 2000 birth year team. Focus was with player development. Chris then started coaching with Peters Township hockey club as the head coach for the JV 2 team in 2017. With the JV 2 team, Chris focused on developing fundamentals, positioning and habits. The JV 2 made it to the finals despite having a difficult start to the year. The next two years Chris spent helping the program with skills and development working with all three high school teams. He ran power skating lessons, skill drills and competition drills. This gave him the opportunity to work with multiple levels of the programs at the same time. In 2021, Rick Tingle invited Chris to become an assistant coach at Varsity. At this time Chris moved back to Peters Township. His focus was running the forward lines and system development. During the 3 seasons Chris won a State Championship and two Pens Cups.
We are confident that Chris Clackson possesses the experience, skills, and leadership qualities necessary to build a strong and successful hockey program for Peters Township.
Please join us in congratulating Chris Clackson on his appointment! We look forward to working with him to achieve our shared vision for PTHC hockey.
It is with great admiration that we announce that Rick Tingle, our Varsity head coach and Director of Coaching, has decided to resign from the PT Hockey Club. His departure is effective April 2024. Rick has been coaching hockey for a total of 31 years. Twenty-five of those years have been spent coaching Peters Township hockey. He has been the PT Varsity head coach for nineteen consecutive seasons. As head coach, he has brought home three state championship wins with titles earned in 2014, 2017 and 2022. As head coach, Rick also earned four Penguins Cups and 8 division titles. Under Rick’s competent leadership, Peters Township has become one of the most consistent PIHL title contenders. He has always put the players and their development first. He has uplifted our PT Hockey program to make it one of the strongest in the Pittsburgh area. Rick has left an indelible mark on our program and the hockey community that will never be forgotten. We wish Rick all the best in his future endeavors.
